Meet the team

Playwright, Actor, Producer

Jonathan Sherman

A modern day renaissance man. An actor, artist, athlete and writer from Los Angeles, California, he obtained his Associates of Arts in Performing Arts from Santa Monica College in 2010 and a B.S in education from St. John’s University. He was nominated in the year 2010-2011 for an Irene Ryan Award for his performance as King in August Wilsons’s King Hedley II.

At a young age, Jonathan had an immense passion for performing and writing. As a child, he won countless oratorical contests and learned he was able to write creatively from listening to music. He attributes his love of writing stories to his early school days where once a week the class was assigned to write stories using the week's spelling words. The student with the best story received a voucher to purchase pizza. Jonathan ate several pies that year.

Prior to writing his first stage play, The Other Side of the Story, Jonathan garnered attention as an actor, poet, and spoken word artist. Performing in The Tempest, Fences, and You Can't Take It With You, it was during this time he was introduced to the great August Wilson and instantly fell in love with the legendary playwright's work. After completing Wilson’s cycle of plays he was inspired to begin writing, with a purpose to inspire, educate, and entertain. He wanted to write something that would not only be genuine to audience members and readers, but also wanted to create a play that performers would pour their all into because of the sincerity of the characters. He has appeared on numerous Buzzfeed videos and has done background work on many films and tv shows including Farewell Amor, White Men Can’t Jump (remake), Power: Raisising Kanaan, and Grownish.

The Other Side of the Story is a rich, colorful piece of work that deals with brotherhood, friendship, love, betrayal, tragedy, and a host of other emotions that we deal with in our lives. It is sure to make you laugh, think, and cry. It is about time that the side of the story that never gets heard has its chance to speak.
